Several months have passed. During the course of their trip, Littlefoot and Ali, though still not fully grown, are now pretty big and, while still with their herd, have been migrating to the Great Valley for such a long time they have nearly lost track of the time. Finally, the herd comes to a halt.
Old One: Listen up, everyone. We'll be resting here for the night.
The herd members are glad to be able to stop again, their legs sore from the walk and some could almost feel blisters along their feet.
Old One: I'll also need volunteers to watch the herd for the night. I have heard rumors that the Tyrannosaurus known as Red Claw roams this part of the land.
Hearing the name, Red Claw, some of the herd felt a twinge of fear and a chill run down their spines. As the Old One looks for volunteers, Littlefoot looks to his parents and grandparents, who have slightly worried looks on their faces. Littlefoot just didn't know what to make of this situation.
Littlefoot: Red Claw? Who's that?
Grandpa: Red Claw is the biggest, and most ferocious Tyrannosaurus ever known.
Bron: He has dark green skin, his eyes are so yellow that you can't see it's pupils, and a long scar that goes across his left eye, all the way down to his claw, hence his name.
Littlefoot: (shocked) Gosh!
Grandma: When your parents were young, they had a run in with that infernal beast. Your grandpa and I barely held our own against him, but we did. The beast fled after that battle and for a long time, we haven't seen him since.
Littlefoot: But why now? What do you think happened after all these years?
Grandpa: Well, there had been many stories as to what could've happened. Some assumed he died, but many others still believed he still wanders these lands, looking to seize any stray dinosaurs. But we know for sure that Red Claw is prowling around out there, seeking his revenge and waiting for the right moment to strike.
Littlefoot's mother: So if you should ever see Red Claw, Littlefoot, you run. Don't try to fight him. Just run and never look back. (pause) I know you're not little anymore, dear. But I just want you to know that your father and I care about you very much.
Littlefoot: I care for you, too, mom. (nuzzles his mother)
Littlefoot then turns to Ali, who looked worried. Littlefoot couldn't help but feel concern for her.
Littlefoot: Excuse me. (walks over to Ali)
Bron: (chuckles) Our son certainly has grown these past few months.
Littlefoot's mother: (smiles) Yes, Bron. And how well he's taken to being with that girl, Ali. Almost reminds me of when you and I first met.
Both adults share a chuckle before nuzzling each other. All the while, Littlefoot approached Ali, who chose to seperate herself from most of the herd, her head hung low looking down at the ground.
Littlefoot: Is something wrong, Ali?
Ali: You know what the Old One said about Red Claw being around here, right?
Littlefoot: (confused) Yeah...
Ali: (sniffles) When I was just a little hatchling, I saw that monster for myself. He attacked our herd and nearly got me. But my dad risked his life to save me...but he never made it.
Tears stream down Ali's eyes, the memory driving down her head painfully like a dagger.
Littlefoot: So...your father sacrificed himself to save you?
Ali: (sniffles) Mm-hmm.
Littlefoot nuzzles her softly and tenderly; Ali looks up to Littlefoot.
Littlefoot: Don't worry, Ali. If Red Claw ever does show his face around here, I'll do what I can to protect you.
Ali: You would do that for me?
Littlefoot: Yes.
Littlefoot and Ali continue to nuzzle, all while their respective parents watch.
Ali's mother: Your Littlefoot has really taken to my Ali.
Littlefoot's mother: (chuckles) Yes.
It was not long before the sky was clouded in the cover of night. Nearly all the herd as sound asleep, even the Apatosaurs on the night shift, who finally collapsed after a long night on watch. A meganeura, or giant dragonfly, is seen flying around the herd, yet the herd appeared as if they could sleep through anything. Suddenly, a prehistoric frog leaps out and fires his sticky tongue, catching the dragonfly as it lands next to Littlefoot.
Frog: Ribbit!
Littlefoot: (drowsily) Huh?
Littlefoot looks and sees the frog munching on the dragongly that it caught. With the dragonfly fully consumed, the frog turns it's attention to Littlefoot, who doesn't flinch. It simply gives Littlefoot a goofy look and opens it's mouth, revealing bits of the dragonfly's wings.
Frog: Ribbit!
Then the frog hops away. As Littlefoot couldn't fall asleep, he decided to check and see where the frog went. The frog hopped all the way to where Ali was sleeping, catching another meganeura on the way.
Frog: Ribbit!
Ali gasps as she sees the frog munching on its dinner before hopping away. Ali then sees Littlefoot approach her.
Ali: Littlefoot?
Littlefoot: Shh!
Ali: (realizing) Oh. What's going on?
Littlefoot: I can't sleep. Care to join me for a little stroll?
Ali: (yawns) Sure. I'm having a hard time falling asleep myself. (gets up)
The frog leads the young Apatosaurs to a nearby pond, where other frogs abounded. Astounded by the small creatures, as they popped in and out of the water, they thought it looked like a good game. They used their feet to pop the bubbles. Littlefoot and Ali giggled each time the water popped in their faces.
Littlefoot: Over here! (spots a bubble and pops one with a single step)
Ali: Hey, this is fun.
As they continued to play, none of them noticed a dark shadow looming by, until they heard footsteps. The ground seemed to shake with each step, ripples started to form in the water, and the frogs dived deep into the water in hiding. They turn from one side to the other, searching for the source of the footsteps. Just then, they turn and see a Tyrannosaurus that had a dark green skin tone, along with a long red scar that went from his left eye, all the way down to his claw. And his eyes were a grisly yellow that seemed to glow so brightly.
Ali: (gasps) Red Claw!
Red Claw roared as he moved closer, spotting the terrified Apatosaurs close by.
Ali: Help!
Littlefoot: Mom! Dad!
Littlefoot/Ali: Help!
They managed to get away just as one of Red Claw's feet made contact with the water. The young Apatosaurs spotted a forest of thorns close by, and rushed in to hide. As the shadow of Red Claw loomed overhead, Littlefoot and Ali moved farther back deeper in the Thorn Forest to blend in. Red Claw looked around and starts sniffing into the thorns, trying to see if he can track their scent. But the thorns were so dense, that the Tyrannosaurus just couldn't push any farther and arched back just as Littlefoot spots an opening at the back end of the forest.
Littlefoot: This way.
Ali: Okay.
Red Claw roared again as Littlefoot ran, trying to lead Ali away. For a moment, it appeared that they were out of the woods. Suddenly, the giant jumps into the thorns, trying to get to Ali. Ali got tangled up in vines, pulling her back as she tried to run with Red Claw's head attempting to reach for her.
Ali: Littlefoot! Help, I'm stuck!
Littlefoot turns back and sees the problem. The more Ali struggled, the tighter the vines held onto Ali and they were dragging her back as Red Claw attempted to get closer.
Littlefoot: Hang on!
Littlefoot comes and tries to pull Ali away from Red Claw's sharp teeth, which seemed to come ever so closely. Finally, the vines binding Ali's back legs snapped and a thorn pokes itself right into Red Claw's left eye. The beast reared up and roared in pain, as he was now blind in one eye. For when he opened it, what was once a golden yellow was replaced by an eye shrounded in blood.
Littlefoot and Ali managed to escape the thorn forest, but Red Claw leapt over and landed right behind them, ready to catch one of them when a mighty tail struck Red Claw, causing the creature to hit a cliffside. The Apatosaurs turned to see who struck Red Claw. It was Littlefoot's mother, who tail whipped the vicious Tyrannosaurus. Though his arms were small, somehow Red Claw was able to push himself back up bashing his weight against the cliff, his weight causing rubble and dust to fall.
Littlefoot: Mom!
Littlefoot's mother: Run! Run!
Red Claw stomped towards Littlefoot's mother, attempting to snap his jaws at her. She merely reared up and headbutted him, nearly knocking the wind out of him. Littlefoot and Ali barely managed to get away from one of his mother's feet, which stomped right down to the ground nearly shaking the earth.
Red Claw continuously tried snapping at Littlefoot's mother, roaring and hissing at her, fueled by anger and quenched with a thirst for flesh. The mother managed to hold her own against the beast and gave another tail whip, which caused Red Claw to hit the mountainside again.
Littlefoot, Ali, and his mother attempted to get away, mistakenly turning their backs on Red Claw. Seizing his opportunity, Red Claw leapt high into the air, landing on Littlefoot's mother's back and chomps onto her back as Littlefoot and Ali watched in horror. Littlefoot's mother tried to get him off, but the weight of Red Claw pushed her down. Suddenly, another tail knocked Red Claw off her back. Littlefoot looked and saw his father, Bron, coming to the rescue, while Littlefoot's mother now had a scar where Red Claw bit her.
Littlefoot: Dad!
Bron: Littlefoot, Ali, get out of here!
Littlefoot, his mother, and Ali did what they could to get away as Red Claw got back on his feet.
Bron: Keep your claws away from my family, you monster!!
Red Claw rammed right into Bron and tried to bite at him and roared, but Bron responds with a strong tail whip, knocking the great Tyrannosaurus down. Littlefoot, his mother, and Ali continue running, the children steadying the mother, who's run was more like a limp from the pain. Suddenly, the Earth starts rumbling and the ground cracks below their feet. Littlefoot and Ali are suddenly separated from his mother when they see the ground splitting apart right before their eyes.
Littlefoot: Ali! Run!
Ali follows Littlefoot, as they try to get away. Littlefoot's mother looked for her son as Red Claw stood upright once more and tried to chase after Littlefoot and Ali again. Red Claw had the children trapped in a corner and looked to finally have a meal out of the terrified young ones. Just then, the ground behind them cracked, hissing steam as Red Claw reared back from the hot steam. Littlefoot and Ali rolled towards the edge of a cliff and Red Claw slowly fell towards them, until his tail suddenly pushes them over.
Littlefoot/Ali: Help!
Littlefoot barely managed to grab a hold of some rocks while Ali uses her front legs to grab onto his tail. Red Claw, meanwhile, tried to use the claws on his small arms to get a grip on the ground to no avail, lacking the upper body strength to pull himself back up.
Littlefoot: MOTHER!!
Littlefoot's mother heard her son's plea for help, just as Littlefoot managed to pull himself, and Ali, back up and away from the cliff. They ran as fast as they could, but they nearly slipped on the ground that sends them towards Red Claw, as the Tyrannosaurus tries to lunge another bite at them. Suddenly, Red Claw is knocked down by Littlefoot's mother's tail, causing him to fall down into the depths of the abyss below.
Littlefoot and Ali run along side Littlefoot's mother, while other dinosaurs panic at the earthquake around them. The Old One roared to her herd as Bron, Littlefoot's grandparents, and Ali's mother looked around for their loved ones. Suddenly the ground rises up, the nearby herds that weren't so lucky tripped and crumbled under the approaching tremor.
Elsewhere, Littlefoot and Ali were separated from his mother again. Ali sees the herd and attempted to run back to them, but the ground crumbled between them and Ali nearly fell down the cliff. But luckily, Littlefoot managed to catch her by the tail and pulled her back as they watched the scene unfold.
Narrator: In this time of the clash of continents, a great earthquake split the land. Herds were divided; families were cut in two. Littlefoot and Ali were separated from their families.
Soon the earthquake ends, the dust started to settle. Though the cliff still crumbled, everyone else was all right. A majority of the adults stood by the edge of the cliff looking down at those who couldn't make it back. Bron and Ali's mother see his son and Ali on that side of the cliff, desperately calling out to them and knowing that there was nothing the herd could do.
Bron: (calls out) Littlefoot!
Ali's mother: (calls out) Ali! Where are you?!
Narrator: Littlefoot and Ali were on one side of the divide. Their parents were on the other.
